New Summer Intern Joins Team

Hey, y’all! I’m Anna Braswell, and am excited about the opportunity to be serving in official capacity as one of the Press’s summer interns! I am a Senior Writing/Publication major at North Georgia, and a Theatre Minor (yeah, we have those).  I am 21, and will celebrate my 22nd birthday during the duration of my internship. I suffer from “middle child syndrome” being the third of four children, and am learning to cope with it better the older I get. The little South Georgia town of Douglas is where I call home; it’s the county seat of Coffee County, conveniently located adjacent to Bacon County and really close to Cook County. (I couldn’t make this up if I tried).

My future plans are as of yet undecided, I’m just working as hard as I can in my current student status until my (hopeful) August graduation. After that, ideally, I would love to be a full-time writer, of children’s stories, young adult novels, and short stories. Realistically, I know I have to get what people call a “real” job in order to sustain myself and not live the starving artist lifestyle, possibly something in journalism, or after my experience here at the Press, maybe somewhere in the world of publishing.

I am a creative soul, and therefore love all kinds of creative writing. My favorite authors include L.M. Montgomery, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ann Rinaldi, and Dr. Seuss, just to name a few. My favorite genre of is historical fiction, but I also enjoy reading plays, especially those of Tennessee Williams. In the non-fiction category, I love reading the autobiographies and biographies of Old Hollywood stars, Ginger Rogers being my absolute favorite actor ever of all time.

In what little free time I have as a college student, I enjoy reading, writing, photography, and watching old movies and the occasional episode of Bones or Doctor Who. I am also a member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries on campus, and a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority, and Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society. I also enjoy useless knowledge and information, as well as annoying those around me with all the useless facts I have collected over the years.

While serving at the Press this summer, I hope to be able to get a close look into the inner workings of how books undergo the transformation process from manuscript to a book on the shelf. I also hope to be able to assist in this process as much as possible, and maybe learn enough to sustain me in a career in the field of publishing.
