Summer Reading List, Part IV

Our Summer reading series continues. Below is the list of a few of books that I’ll be reading this summer. I expect this list will grow as summer goes by.

April’s Summer Reading List:

  1. The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson): For a while now, I’ve felt as if I should have my nerd card taken away because I hadn’t even attempted to read this series. I finally started a couple weeks ago. At fourteen books with about 700 pages each, this is a monumental task for summer. I have this epic fantasy series as summer reading mostly because I plan on reading MOST of the series this summer and continue through fall and winter, waiting for January when the 14th book is finally released.  I’m currently reading book two, The Great Hunt, so no spoilers!

  2. Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury: When I was a teenager, I was hooked on Ray Bradbury after I read his short story “There Will Come Soft Rains.” Soon after, I gobbled up Farenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes, but I have never read this particular book. One of the books clubs I attend has chosen this for our July read, and I look forward to reading the book that inspired the Apollo 15 astronauts.
  3. Island of the Sequined Love Nun by Christopher Moore:  With a description of “a world of cargo cults, cannibals, mad scientists, ninjas, and talking fruit bats,” how could anyone not want to read this book? This book will actually be a re-read. I first read Island of the Sequined Love Nun about 10 years ago. It was my first foray into the genius of Christopher Moore and holds a special place in my heart. I’ve read most of Moore’s items more than once, but this one has slipped under the re-read-radar, until now!
  4. Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris:  I love me some Southern Vampire Mysteries and Sookie Stackhouse. They are my summer brain candy.
  5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline: I don’t want to read this one, per se. I want to have it read to me. The reader of the audiobook version of this particular novel about a virtual reality utopia is none other than Wil Wheaton. If you don’t know who Wil Wheaton is, you’re not nerdy enough.
