In 1942, all of Europe was at the point of breaking and breaking up families. As Hitler was threatening to invade Poland, Jewish families were fleeing to secret hiding places to avoid deportation and death by the Nazis.
Until We Meet Again: A True Story of Love and Survival in the Holocaust, written by Michael Korenblit and Kathleen Janger, tells the story of Manya and Meyer, two 17 year olds in love who are forced to flee into hiding with their families. At the last minute, Manya decided to leave her family and join Meyer and his family. The story follows the two lovers throughout the war as they are separated from their families and from each other. Never losing faith in their love for each other they hold onto the idea of seeing each other again as Manya is sent to Auschwitz and Meyer is sent to Dachau.
This is a powerful story of not only this young couple’s love for each other, but also their will to survive. Korenblit, who is also the couple’s son, and Janger openly depict the harsh reality of the world they lived in, and survived. While this story is tough to swallow because of the truth it holds, it is a wonderful piece that will touch the hearts of those who read it.
