Link-N-Blogs: June 7

“Old books exert a strange fascination for me–their smell, their feel, their history; wondering who might have owned them, how they lived, what they felt.”–Lauren Willig

  1. Vintage Book Art: It’s not the usual bookart that we feature on the weekly Link-N-blogs post, but it’s still quite fascinating and beautiful. Check out these watercolors by Jonathan Wolstenholme of books doing some interesting things (See pic at the bottom of page for an example of Wolstenholme’s work) over on Flavorwire.com.
  2. The Booksmash Challenge: HarperCollins is holding an app contest. They’re looking for new and exciting books apps and have created this contest that has big cash prizes for those who win! Check out this link for more details on the contest and how to enter.
  3. Pre-Testing Your Book: Wondering if your niche book will sell? Try this tactic featured on the Bookbaby blog.
  4. Book Domino Chain World Record: The Seattle Public Library and two students teamed up to create the world record for the longest book domino chain and they recorded their efforts and posted it on YouTube. Check out the fun; then feel sorry for the person who had to re-shelve all those books.
  5. State-by-State Bookstore Stats: Which State has the most book stores? What about bookstore per capita? Publishers Weekly has the answers!

“What I say is, a town isn’t a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it’s got a bookstore it knows it’s not fooling a soul.”–Neil Gaiman, American Gods
