Caleb Thomason- Arsenal F.C. fan since boyhood (COYG), hiker of mountains, fascinated by birds, woodwork artisan (wannabe), and Millennial.
I love this little town. Going on four years now, Dahlonega has been home to me. Every home has flaws, little imperfections that make it unique, defined by the individuals that inhabit it.
I was drawn to the solace offered by the mountains and trees. There is nothing quite like standing on a mountaintop, watching nature dance, feeling her cool touch as she hums a familiar tune. Additionally, the people I’ve been privileged to meet along the way have kept me here—most folks here are kind to a fault (if such a thing exists) and appreciate this little town and all who inhabit it. They keep me grounded, comfortable. At the core, I believe Dahlonega has a beatific soul.
Close to the heart of Dahlonega is the University of North Georgia. UNG is the third school I have attended since graduating from Mary Persons High School in 2009. I transferred here in the fall of 2012 and immediately felt at home. In spring 2014 I changed my major (for the umpteenth time) to English/Writing and Publication. Writing poetry has been a passion of mine for years. Every word is intentional and carefully placed, and I appreciate that attention to detail.
In searching for an internship, I found the University Press to be an inviting option because it is close and its focus is right at home. So far the folks at the Press have proven to be kind, professional, and willing to share their knowledge of the Press business. In my time here at the Press, I would like to learn more about the publication process, different forms of writing in media, and what it takes to work in an atmosphere filled with people who share an appreciation for the power of words.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with University of North Georgia Press and look forward to facing the learning curve that lies ahead.
