Casey LaFrance, author and professor at Western Illinois University, is set to release his newest book, Targeting Discretion: A Guide for Command Staff, Frontline Officers, and Students early 2017.
After nearly a decade of research and countless hours in the field, LaFrance is ready to tackle the issue of police discretion. He introduces his own Target Model of Discretion designed with active law enforcement officers in mind. This fresh take on the stale, 40-year-old Doughnut Model seeks to redefine factors that affect discretionary actions. The implementation of this innovative model will ultimately streamline decision-making in law enforcement, making their jobs easier and our lives safer.
But Targeting Discretion isn’t just about police officers. Students and academics can make use of the extensive case studies, data tables, and revealing graphs to explore what life is like behind the blue curtain. Without law enforcement experience, outsiders can participate in hands-on activities and question-based scenarios to experience what life is like for the officers who make off-the-cuff decisions while on their daily patrol.
For $24.99 you and your students can get in some target practice with Casey LaFrance’s Targeting Discretion.
