The growing prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked excitement and concern across creative industries. But for publishers, knowing how to harness AI effectively—and ethically—is already becoming essential. To guide authors, content creators, and all forms of publishing professionals through this rapidly evolving landscape, the University of North Georgia (UNG) Press is offering a four-week asynchronous course, AI and Publishing, in partnership with UNG Evergreen Learning.
About the Course
Developed by UNG Press Director Dr. BJ Robinson and Managing Editor Corey Parson in direct response to the Press’s integration of AI into real publishing tasks—from copyediting to Open Educational Resource (OER) development and remediation to audiobook production and beyond—this course teaches participants to harness AI as a strategic collaborator without sacrificing quality or values. AI and Publishing explores the ethical and practical implications of AI in the publishing industry. Through self-paced instruction, weekly assignments, and a final project, students will develop content creation, editing, and marketing skills using AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT), with applications across traditional publishing, self-publishing, social media, and multimedia platforms—no textbook required.

Corey Parson is the Managing Editor of the University of North Georgia Press and a researcher exploring ethical AI use in publishing. With over a decade of experience in editorial workflows, copyright, and book production, she investigates how AI can support accessibility, author rights, and ethical practices across publishing workflows—including editorial, book design, audiobook development, translation, and ebook production.
Previously offered in a synchronous format, AI and Publishing will be offered in an asynchronous format beginning August 26, 2025. Fully online, self-paced, and just four weeks long, this course offers the rare opportunity to learn directly from publishing professionals actively integrating AI into real marketing, editorial, and production workflows.
