Hello, I am the new intern of the University Press of North Georgia, specializing in…learning as much as possible about as many things as possible. This is now the last step in my college education, as I graduate this fall.
Unlike many people in writing and publication I have known not liking books, an unpleasant scar from an unpleasant middle school. As a home schooled child, I loved reading—especially nonfiction; I can never learn too much—but some well-intended reading programs burnt me out of reading. Nothing spoils the imagination quite like a requirement. I had to slowly rediscover my love for writing in high school.
I began my college education at Gainesville State—now the Gainesville campus of UNG — as a communications major and I competed in tournaments all over the Southeast with the GSC debate club, both in parliamentary debate and in dramatic interpretation. I even competed with them at a national tournament. Alas, my stay there was brief. After I transferred to North Georgia, I switched departments to English: Writing and Publication.
Eventually, I hope to write, or at least work within the publishing industry to shape creativity and the way we see it. I hope my internship here at the University Press of North Georgia will give me the experience and knowledge to do both effectively, as well as the opportunity to network.
