Hello, everyone. My name is April Loebick. You’ve probably seen posts from me before. I’ve been posting blogs and other things on this website for the past 3 years or so. Whenever we get new interns and student workers here at the press, one of their first assignments is to write a few paragraphs introducing themselves to the world. It has taken me this long to realize that I have never done so myself.
Currently, I am the Managing Editor for the University Press of North Georgia. I do a little bit of everything here at the press from everyday office maintenance, to acquisitions, to sells, to editing, to design, to taskmaster, to whatever is needed at the moment.
I have grown with this press. My journey with the press started back in 2008, only a little over year after the press had begun, when I was returning to school for the second time. Publishing wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I decided to go back to school to finish out my English degree (I was going to be the Female, American Tolkien or something like that), but it’s what I fell in love with. I started out in our wonderful Intro to Publishing class, did an internship with the press, worked part time as a student, then more after I graduated. Seven months after I graduated, I was lucky enough to transition to a full time position. I became the first full-time employee of the University Press of North Georgia.
On a personal note, I’ve been married for over eight years. I don’t have any actual children, but I have three dogs, and they are my babies. All three are corgis, and their names are Waffles (8 y/o, f, Brindle Cardigan), Twinkie (4 y/o, f, Red, Pembroke), and Scotch (2 y/o, m, Sable, Pembroke)–all part of a balanced breakfast. In my spare time, I read avidly and even write (I haven’t been disillusioned!). Or, if I’m feeling really lazy, I chill out on the couch and watch reruns of Phineas and Ferb (grownups can watch cartoons, too).
In the future, I hope to continue working for the press so I can be there to help nurture it as it grows. It’s always inspiring to be a part of something that you know is growing and changing.
Until next time, folks! Have a safe and happy summer!
