Employee Spotlight: Corey Parson

Corey Parson

Greetings fellow book enthusiasts, scholars, and author stalkers! My name is Corey Parson. I’m currently working on my Bachelor’s Degree in English at the University of North Georgia. I’ve had the pleasure of working for the University Press of North Georgia since early 2012. Dr. Robinson’s Introduction to Publishing class was my first exposure to the world of publishing. It didn’t take long before I was hooked on publishing and everything it entails. I cornered Dr. Robinson, UPNG’s director, in her office and begged her for a job at the press. She went out on a limb and gave me part time work with the press. Since that fateful day, she hasn’t been able to get rid of me. The press has given me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the publishing industry, gain experience, and grow my skill set. After years of working part time, opportunity knocked in the form of a full time position at the press. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I’m thrilled to embark on this new adventure. It is my goal to continue to grow the press, making it possible to extend the same door-opening opportunities to others who crave the experience and knowledge only the University Press of North Georgia can provide.

My other passions include writing and reading. I know; I am utterly predictable. I have finished the first draft of my novel, Asylum, which I am in the process of rewriting. I currently have more novels in the works as well. My poetry has been published in the Stonepile Writers Anthology: Volume I. My short story, “Mama and Me”, has been published in the Stonepile Writers Anthology: Volume III.

I’m happily married to my wonderful husband, Eric, who is a skilled and talented mechanical engineer. We are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Nikki and October. My favorite past-times include hanging out with my family and watching zombie movies. I’m a huge fan of The Walking Dead comics and television show. You can spot me cruising around town in my “zombie-mobile”. The love of writing and reading runs in the family. Nikki enjoys age-appropriate horror stories and has published a short story of her own entitled “The Escape from the Palace”. October is not yet old enough to read or write on her own, but she thoroughly enjoys the bedtime staple Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd.
