A Fond Farewell to my Time with the UNG Press

It’s November, which means that my tenure as an intern at the UNG Press has come to an end. I had such a positive experience working with the wonderful UNG Press staff.

In total honesty, when I went into this internship, I underestimated how much time management was required. I had been accustomed to the rigid work schedule of a typical college course. With this internship I experienced everything tenfold. This paid off, however, because around October I began to see an improvement in my task management. I loved writing our blog posts because those gave me the chance to improve my writing skills. Be sure to keep an eye out for my blogs on Earth Day and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! The First Line Friday and promotional images assignments especially allowed my creativity to flourish! In high school I had shown an interest in graphic design and piece writing. Now I can wholly say that I love creating eye-catching promotional images and my skills have increased exponentially. Proofreading was my most valuable (and time consuming!) journey by far. Pouring over each word in a 300-page manuscript taught me to have an eye for detail, to always double check my proofs, and to never be afraid to ask questions.

As I compile my work for my post-internship portfolio, I can’t help but be proud of my progress. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and I am happy that my first step was with the UNG Press! I would like to thank Ms. Jillian Murphy for her dedication and effort in helping me improve my writing skills. I would like to thank Dr. B. J. Robinson for encouraging me to apply for this internship when I was taking her class in spring 2019. Without these two amazing women, I would not be where I am today!
