Book Proposal Submissions: New Areas of Interest

UNG Press now accepts book proposals in a wider range of subject areas, including but not limited to:

Research

  • Recovering erased histories, preserving cultural heritage, and shaping new legacies
  • Women who shape (and shaped) Appalachia and the South
  • Chicken farming and its influence on the South
  • Military service, veterans, and community life beyond the uniform
  • Addiction and community healing in Appalachia

Nonfiction

  • Military memoirs and reflections on leadership in service
  • Oral histories from Appalachia and the South
  • Narratives recovering erased histories and preserving cultural heritage
  • Narratives documenting regional communities, traditions, and ways of life

Fiction

  • Appalachian Gothic
  • Women who shape (and shaped) Appalachia and the South
  • Military service, veterans, and life beyond the uniform
  • Stories grounded in erased histories, folklore, and cultural heritage

Please note that the window for New Southern literary fiction is open from June through August every year.

We hope to see your book submission in the stacks. While we are accepting queries in our existing publishing areas, these new areas of interest are our current priority in our acquisitions review. If you would like to submit your query to us, please email ungpress@ung.edu.
